Valerian Pidmohylny
Valerian Pidmohylny (1901–1937) was a Ukrainian writer and translator, a key figure of the “Executed Renaissance.” He was born in the Katerynoslav region and studied at Katerynoslav University.
His prose is known for psychological depth and modernist style. He translated major French authors including Anatole France, Guy de Maupassant, and Honoré de Balzac.
Arrested in 1934 by Soviet authorities, he was executed in 1937 in Sandarmokh during the Great Terror. He was later rehabilitated posthumously.
