Jacob's Century is an epic novel in which hundred-year-old Jacob remembers his life, simultaneously revealing the entire tragic history of Volyn and Ukraine. Two world wars, the Holodomor, Soviet times, independence — all pass through a single fate.

Lys created a monumental work in which a private story becomes a national epic. The novel won several literary prizes.
