In the Snows is a collection of eight novellas by Vasyl Portyak, a master of Ukrainian short forms and nominee for the Taras Shevchenko National Prize. The stories unfold in the Carpathians, among snows and mountains, where human passions acquire a special intensity.

Portyak creates vivid, psychologically authentic portraits of people living in the harsh conditions of mountain terrain. Each novella is a separate story connected by themes of solitude, resilience, and the beauty of the Carpathian region.
