The Girl Without a Dress — Liudmyla Volok

The Girl Without a Dress is a novel by Ukrainian writer Liudmyla Volok (b. 1968, Tsarychanka). The author is a graduate of the journalism faculty at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and a laureate of the Korneichuk Literary Prize (2016).

Volok’s romantic prose explores themes of self-discovery, love and female self-identification. The heroine finds herself in a situation where familiar social roles and expectations no longer work, and she must redefine herself. The book is distinguished by its subtle psychological insight, lyrical language and attention to the details of everyday life transformed by the power of feeling.
