ENG: Kruty. January 1918

“Kruty: January 1918” is a historical documentary book (edited by Yaroslav Fayzulin) dedicated to one of the most tragic and, at the same time, most heroic chapters in Ukrainian history—the battle at the Kruty railway station on January 29, 1918.

Unique Documents: The book contains declassified archival materials, memoirs of the few participants in the battle who managed to survive, as well as eyewitness accounts and newspaper articles from that time.

Historical Context: The authors do not merely describe the battle itself but provide a detailed analysis of the political situation in the Ukrainian People’s Republic, the reasons for Kyiv’s military unpreparedness, and the course of the Ukrainian-Bolshevik War.

Debunking Myths: The publication helps distinguish historical truth from Soviet fabrications and later romanticized myths, revealing the true scale of the tragedy and the military significance of the defense of Kruty.

Lists and Biographies: The book includes biographical notes on some of the fallen heroes, restoring their names and faces to the national memory.
