Tango of Death — Yuriy Vynnychuk

Tango of Death is a major novel by Yuriy Vynnychuk about Lviv during the Nazi occupation. One of the most important contemporary Ukrainian novels about World War II.

Tango of Death tells of four friends — a Ukrainian, a Pole, a Jew, and a German — whose friendship is tested by war. The action unfolds in Lviv during the Nazi occupation.

The title references the real orchestra that played in the Lviv Ghetto. Vynnychuk created a sweeping epic that became a bestseller and was translated into many languages. Tango of Death is one of the high points of Vynnychuk's oeuvre.
