“How to Uncover Your Own Murder” is an inventive locked-room mystery that combines Agatha Christie’s classic style with modern dynamics and a touch of mysticism.
Essence: A fortune teller tells Francis that she will be killed. The woman becomes paranoid and spends 60 years compiling dossiers on all her acquaintances, preparing an investigation into her own murder in advance. When she is finally killed, her granddaughter has a week to find the culprit using her grandmother’s archives in order to inherit the estate. Why it’s cool: Two timelines: the mysteries of the 1960s versus the modern investigation. Closed space: the killer is someone among colorful relatives or neighbours. Intrigue: was the prophecy real, or did Francis ’summon’ it herself? In short: A clever, ironic, and very tangled detective story.
