Ania-Hania, Good Night — Dominik Roc

“Anya-Ganya: Good Night” by Dominika Roka is a sweet and funny picture book for children, perfect for the evening bedtime routine. It is part of a popular series about the adventures of a little girl named Anya-Ganya (originally Ana Ana).

It’s time for bed, but little Anya-Ganya isn’t the least bit tired. Unlike her, her faithful stuffed animal friends—a cute blue bear, a bunny, and other toys—are already eager to rest. The girl tries to get them to join in her games, but the toys are too sleepy.

In the end, the tables turn: the toys have to show patience and ingenuity to calm their energetic owner and finally drift off to sleep together.

Why kids and parents love this book:

Relatability: Parents recognize in the main character their own “reluctant sleepers,” who’ll do anything to stay awake, while kids see themselves in Ani-Gani.

Comic book format: The book is structured like a “first comic book”—minimal text, plenty of expressive illustrations, and speech bubbles, making it easy for little ones to follow.

Emotionality: The illustrations are very vivid—the expressions on the faces of the toys and the girl make it easy to understand their feelings almost without words.

A cozy ending: Despite all the commotion at the beginning, the book ends very calmly, setting the child in the mood for rest.
