Heroines and Heroes — Yevheniia Kononenko

Heroines and Heroes is a work by Yevheniia Kononenko, a Ukrainian writer and translator known for her feminist stance in literature. The book presents a gallery of female and male characters through whom the author examines gender relations in Ukrainian society.

Kononenko combines an ironic gaze with deep sympathy for her heroines, creating texts in which the personal is inseparable from the social. The work continues the tradition of Ukrainian feminist prose inaugurated by Olha Kobylianska.
