The City is a novel by Valerian Pidmohylnyi, published in 1928, and is considered one of the finest examples of Ukrainian modernism. The work follows Stepan Radchenko, a young provincial intellectual who comes to conquer Kyiv.

The novel explores themes of urbanisation, cultural transformation, and the inner contradictions of identity. Pidmohylnyi, executed in 1937, left behind a work that became a classic of 20th-century Ukrainian literature.
