During a game of bridge the host is found dead, making it clear that the murder occurred while the game was in progress. Each guest had the opportunity and possible motive to commit the crime.

Hercule Poirot and the other investigators analyze the players’ behavior in order to uncover the truth. The novel combines a classic detective puzzle with a psychological study of its characters.
