Velyka Oleksandrivka Hydroelectric Power Plant

History

The Velyka Oleksandrivka Hydroelectric Power Plant was built in 1928 as part of the GOELRO plan — a large-scale electrification program.

It became an important element of the region’s energy infrastructure, supplying electricity to local settlements.

Period of Decline

During World War II, the station was damaged. After the war, it operated for some time as a diesel power plant.

In the 1950s, after the commissioning of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant, the need for the small station decreased, and it was eventually shut down.

Restoration

After decades of inactivity, the station was restored in 2016.

By 2017, work was ongoing to connect it to the power grid and bring it into full operation.

Significance

Today, the Velyka Oleksandrivka Hydroelectric Power Plant is an example of small-scale hydropower development and the restoration of historical infrastructure.

It holds not only technical but also historical value for the region.
